Cost of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: Conditions, Pricing Factors, and What to Expect

Cost of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: Conditions, Pricing Factors, and What to Expect

If you’ve been wondering about the cost of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, you’re in the right place. Have you heard of “hyperbaric oxygen therapy?” It is a non-invasive treatment where a patient lies in a comfortable, acrylic chamber (called a monoplace chamber) and breathes 100% pure oxygen under pressure greater than sea level. This greatly boosts oxygen levels in the bloodstream to help repair damaged tissues inside the body.

Many patients can benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy because it addresses numerous health issues. It is a treatment for conditions such as non-healing diabetic foot ulcers, chronic bone infections, effects from radiation therapy, and more recently discovered benefits for inflammatory bowel disease, sports injuries, effects of a stroke, and traumatic brain injury.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is utilized worldwide to treat various injuries, conditions, and illnesses. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration has issued approval for hyperbaric oxygen therapy when treating certain conditions, including:

  • Late effects of radiation (bony and soft tissue)
  • Crush injuries
  • Compromised skin grafts or flaps
  • Chronic, refractory osteomyelitis (bone infection)
  • Diabetic foot ulcers that have not healed with traditional treatments

Health insurance carriers cover some, but not all of the conditions that can benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy. If you and/or your doctor feel that you may benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy for a non-covered condition, you may have to pay out-of-pocket, as your insurance may not cover the treatment.

At HealMedO2, we offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments for a wide range of conditions, both covered and non-covered by insurance. Give us a call today to learn more or to schedule your appointment: (619) 470-4325

Let’s Take a Closer Look at the Cost of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Cost of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

If you have a condition that is covered by your insurance, HealMedO2 staff will verify that the coverage is in place. However, if you are seeking hyperbaric treatment for a condition that is not covered by insurance, our staff will work with you on a cash price and a payment plan. The cost of treatment will depend upon the duration and number of treatments needed.

When you come to HealMedO2 for your initial consultation, our hyperbaric physician or physician’s assistant will take a history and perform an assessment of your condition. The staff will obtain any necessary records from your doctors, which may include x-rays, history of your condition, lab work, etc. Once you have been deemed a candidate for hyperbaric oxygen therapy, then you will be scheduled for treatments, which can be anywhere from a few days to six weeks. Treatments are daily, 5 days per week, and can last 1-2 hours, depending on your condition.

Insurances Accepted

HealMedO2 accepts insurance plans from most major carriers like United Healthcare, Cigna, Aetna, Blue Shield, Healthfirst, Fidelis, and Medicare. The copay, coinsurance, and deductible listed on your insurance policy should help you calculate how much you’ll have to pay out-of-pocket.

We recommend contacting your insurance carrier to determine the coverage amount for a hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment under your policy. Your carrier may even require you to seek pre-authorization for hyperbaric oxygen therapy, regardless of whether your condition is covered or not. If hyperbaric therapy is not covered, then our staff will work with you on a cash price.
